May 27, 2012 Still at Pebble Isle

Last weekend we drove the car down to Athens, AL, Bay Hill Marina, and had a real nice visit with our friends we met while doing the Loop in 2010 (Roy and Elvie on the RoyEl). We stayed in their stateroom.  It was good to see them again and we got caught up on every thing.  Originally they were going to do the Cumberland River with us but do to family matters there is a change of plans.  Hopefully we will catch up with them again in the fall when heading south.

We have been getting things ready for our trip up the Cumberland River.  Keith had me doing manual labor the other day.  We cleaned all 9 of our fenders.  Keith did 3 and I did the other 6.  Cleaning fenders is hard work and it takes a lot of "elbow grease".  Our fenders had not been cleaned real good since we finished the Loop last August and they got real dirty in the locks.

It has been real warm here the last week; mid 90's during the day and mid 70's at night.  We try to take the dinghy out daily and do some exploring and after this crazy weekend gets over with we will take the boat out and anchor again for a few night before leaving on our trip.

CO's comments:  It is nice that we have the state park close by and we take daily early morning walks there.  I am turning into a Civil War, nautical battle, history buff.  In the last couple Leatherneck magazines there have been articles on Confederate and Northern Marines and there were some Marines involved in the battles in this area.

Pictures from the Tennessee Park next to the marina; a lot of history in this area.
